LIFE TIME FENCE

Home

In 2005 we placed one half mile of new fence in the Cams pasture.  Osage Orange will last for many years and is
a very hard wood post.  We purchased these post south of Salina, Kansas from a dealer that sells this post in
several states.  The corner post are eight foot long and are eight to ten inches in diameter at the large end.  These
post weight 200 to 250 pounds and have the small end placed in the ground.  All of my corner post are 55 inches
above the ground with a five foot pipe used for a brace unit.  I used two inch pipe for this brace and they were
placed nineteen inches from the top of the post.  The line post are seven and one half foot long and I placed the
small end in the ground.  These line post are fifty inches in height from the ground.  Normally each line post is
placed a rod apart but I placed my post fourteen foot apart.  Five strands of barb wire was then attached to the
fence and were stapled nine inches apart from the ground.  In place of stapes I used a wire brad that was one and
half inches long.  Each wire has three wire brads to hold the wire in place.  About one quarter of an inch is left to
to the outside of the post so that the brad could be pulled out if need arose.  The post cost me four dollars each for
the line post and twelve dollars for the corner post.   Each corner post brace cost six dollars each and the bolts
that held the pipe in place were ten inches long.  Chet Herron and myself completed this fence in 110 days.
Much of this area was hills.
