Old Hay Stacker

Home  Back to Ranch history

This hay stacker was used for many year on the Reyman
Ranch.  As many as 25, five ton stack could be put up in
on day.  It required four head of horses to take the hay up
the stacker head.  A person was on the stack to move the
hay so that the stack was in proper form to remove the
hay in the winter-time.  This old stacker is about to collapse due
to age and maintenance.  It is a shame as it was the corner stone
of cattle feeding during the 40's, 50's and 60's.  It is in (sort of) it's
burial place in the tree orchard on the hay meadow.  This picture
was taken in September 2004
